You Should Be Alarmed: Effective Fire Protection is Free and Easily Available

There are three keys to fire safety: quick detection, fast notification and immediate intervention according to Scarsdale Fire Chief Christopher Mytych, who stresses that the first tenet, early detection, is in homeowners’ hands, but that SFD is here to help. Chief Mytych recommends that residents take part in the Home Fire Campaign, which offers free battery-operated smoke detector installation throughout a house of any size. All you have to do is register here to set up an appointment, and American Red Cross volunteers will show up with enough detectors to properly protect your house. Full story here.

WWII-era Film Shot in Scarsdale Discovered in Library Archives

The Scarsdale Public Library and the Scarsdale Historical Society are proud to present the first screening in decades of Scarsdale in World War II. The movie will be shown at the SPL on Tuesday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. Since being uncovered in the library’s archives, the 16mm film has been digitized and preserved by the Scarsdale Historical Society. Originally released in 1946, the film chronicles how Scarsdalians united and rallied in support of the war effort in the 1940s; the project was part of a fundraising campaign to support Jewish refugee children. Scarsdale in World War II not only presents a snapshot of daily life here almost 80 years ago, but it also captures local landmarks as they once appeared, and includes footage of notable sites that no longer exist. The film was made possible thanks to the late Murray Silverstone, who was a Scarsdale resident and president of Twentieth Century Fox. The film will be presented as originally created. It contains language which may cause offense. Click here to register for the screening.
