Don’t Sit Idle (In Your Vehicle) During Warm Weather

Did you know that Westchester County passed legislation in 2009 prohibiting vehicle idling? Under this law, in order to protect the environment, drivers are prohibited from running their car or truck engines for more than three consecutive minutes, while sitting still, when the temperature rises above 40 degrees. Spring has arrived in Scarsdale, so let’s all do our part to lower our carbon footprint–and let everyone breathe easier too.

Vine Volunteers Needed to Help Save the Trees

The next session of vine cutting will take place Sunday, March 31, from 1pm to 3pm across the street from 77 Tunstall Road on land that is south of Davis Park near New Rochelle. The cutting of destructive, invasive vines that can smother trees by blocking the sun and girdling tree trunks, is vital to the community. Attendees will be taught about identification and safe removal of vines and should wear gloves, long sleeves, safe footwear and eye protection. Please bring loppers or pruning shears if you have them. If you plan to attend, contact Cynthia Roberts at CynthiaVroberts@gmail.com and Elaine Weir elaine.weir.sherman@gmail.com at Friends of the Scarsdale Parks.
