Keep your Ride on the Safe Side An unlocked car with the key fob inside was stolen during the night from a Murray Hill driveway this week, and the alleged perpetrators also picked through several other unlocked vehicles. Videos show that the suspects moved on from cars that were locked. Scarsdale Police continue to urge all residents to remove valuables from their vehicles, take the keys out and lock car doors at all times. Police also recommend exterior motion lighting and use of car alarms. Keys (and other valuables) should also not be left near the front door of your house, which should also be kept locked.

SVAC Finds Cloudy Skies Upstate During Historic Eclipse At the request of the New York State Department of Health, Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps sent EMT Jim Buckley and volunteer paramedic Jonathan Goodman to the Rochester suburb of Spencerport as first responders in case of an uptick in emergencies during the total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8. Goodman was eager to go for the “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” He and Buckley were assigned to support the Gates Volunteer Ambulance Company, where they made fast friends with other first responders under what turned out to be cloudy skies. “I was very impressed with the State’s team and preparations,” Goodman said. “They were well-prepared for what can happen when hundreds of thousands of people suddenly descend on small towns. Happily, the worst-case scenario didn’t materialize. We had only a few dispatches, with our last patient being treated and transported near midnight after the eclipse ended. Everyone we met was incredibly nice and welcoming. It was an honor and privilege to be able to represent SVAC and participate in this unique event.”

#DenimDay in Scarsdale is Wednesday, April 17 On Wednesday, April 17, Scarsdale Edgemont Family Counseling Services and the Scarsdale Safe Coalition: Children, Families and Community encourages you to “Wear Jeans with Purpose” for Denim Day, which has become a symbol of protest opposing erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault. In this rape prevention education campaign, they ask community members, elected officials, businesses and students to make a social statement with their fashion by wearing jeans on this day as a visible means of protesting the misconceptions that surround sexual assault. SFCS and the Safe Coalition ask that you take a picture(s) of yourself wearing jeans with your family, friends and colleagues and post these pictures to your social media sites with #denimday and tag the Safe Coalition’s Facebook page. SFCS has stickers that say “Ask Me About Denim Day” so that others will understand why you are wearing denim. Stickers are available at the office in Suite 409 of the Harwood Building. Although Denim Day will be acknowledged internationally on April 24, we will acknowledge Denim Day in Scarsdale on April 17 due to the timing of spring break. For more information about Denim Day visit www.peaceoverviolence.org/denim-day/ or email Natalie Ramos at Nramos@sfcsinc.org.
