Village Board Unanimously Adopts 2024-25 Budget

The 2024-25 Operating Budget approved by the Village Board on Tuesday, April 30, features an increase in the tax levy of 4.93%, or $2,293,000, which exceeds the New York State Tax Cap. This increase equates to a 4.27% increase on the tax rate or $348.39 for the average household. Exceeding the tax cap as not an easy decision and was not taken lightly by the Village Staff or the Trustees. One major late addition to the budget plan is ear-marking $800,000 in fund balance for upgrades to Village Hall in advance of a more permanent plan for the aging space in the coming years. This allocation will not cause an increase in the tax levy. A link to the budget can be found here, the Digital Budget book here.

Water Main Flushing Begins Monday, May 6

Three weeks of water main flushing by the Scarsdale Water Department begins Monday, May 6, and will continue until all pipes in the system have been systematically flushed. Water main flushing prevents discoloration of water during the heavy demand periods of the summer months. Slight discoloration may occur during the flushing period, but will settle out in a short time. Though the water is safe for consumption, it may stain clothes if washed in it. Residents should anticipate discolored water during the day and early evening. Surrounding areas may also experience some discoloration.

  • May 6-10: Greenacres (West of Post Road), Fox Meadow, Old Scarsdale, Overhill, Berkeley in Scarsdale, Bramlee Heights neighborhoods, and Post Road starting from White Plains through Eastchester.
  • May 13-17: Arthur Manor, Drake Edgewood, Sherbrooke Park, Heathcote, Greenacres (East of Post Road), Murray Hill Middle Heathcote, and part of East Heathcote neighborhoods.
  • May 20-24: Remainder of East Heathcote, Secor Farms, West Quaker Ridge, Scarsdale Meadows, Quaker Ridge, and Colonial Acres neighborhoods.

Please also note that the schedule may be adjusted or extended, particularly in response to weather conditions. Weekly schedule updates will be available on the Water Department webpage. If you have any questions, please contact the Water Department at 914-722-1138.

$500 Fee for Non-Compliance of Water Meter Replacement

Due to a very low response rate from the community towards free replacement of residential water meters throughout the Village, homes that have not have their meters replaced by National Metering Services, Inc., will be assessed a one-time $500 fee on their next water bill in order to off-set costs associated with the continued use of the old non-compliant water meters and serve as a strong incentive for compliance. The fee will be waived if the meter is replaced within 60 days of the notice. For information on how to schedule your appointment, which lasts about 30 minutes and requires access to your basement or utility room, click here. You can scan the code to the left to set up your appointment. If you are unsure if your meter needs to be replaced, you can call the Water Department at 914-722-1138.

Denim Day Makes Jeans More Than a Fashion Statement

Though Denim Day, in support of rape prevention awareness and to protest misconceptions about sexual assault, was observed worldwide on April 24, here in Scarsdale people wore denim as a message on April 17, due to spring break’s timing. On April 30, the Village Board of Trustees and Village Staff wore denim to the Board’s business meeting in order to support the public awareness campaign. From left, Trustees Sameer Ahuja and Ken Mazer, Village Counsel Nick Ward-Willis, Deputy Mayor Dara Gruenberg, Mayor Justin Arest, Acting Village Manager Alex Marshall, and Trustees Jeremy Gans, Karen Brew and Jeremy Wise.
