Scouts Celebrated at Village Board Meeting

With the annual Memorial Day Parade canceled due to inclement weather, the Village invited leaders from Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts to share achievements that would have typically been celebrated on Memorial Day. Adelia Bandsma showcased her Hometown Heroes project, honoring veterans from Scarsdale with banners in the Village that she said she hopes bring “awareness to the numerous veterans in our community and their service to this country.” Mayor Justin Arest called it “truly a special gift to the Village.”

Eagle Scouts Zachary Finkel and Noah Millard were introduced by Scarsdale Scout Master Ted Mazza; Gold Award winners Charlotte Blotner and Kyra Montgomery were recognized by Scarsdale Edgemont Girl Scouts Volunteer Service Unit Manager Donna Maria Caro. Bandsma is soon to receive a Gold Award as well. The Village appreciates the Scout's positive impact on the community.

Ready, Set, Go! Greenacres Playground Renovation to Begin Soon

In collaboration with the Greenacres Neighborhood Association and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, renovation of the Greenacres Playground at the Greenacres Elementary School took a step forward. The Village Board approved removal of the existing playground apparatus and safety equipment and the purchase and installation of new apparatus and a safety surface. The $200,000 project was awarded to Great Lakes Recreation, North East Recreation and Powerplay LT/Little Tikes Commercial. The existing playground was installed in 1999. A timeline for the project will be set at a later date pending finalizing details and consultation with the Scarsdale School District. For more information on Village playgrounds, click here.

Scarsdale Joins Forces with Neighbors for the Greater Good

The Village of Scarsdale, City of New Rochelle, Town of Eastchester and the Westchester County Government have been working collaboratively for over a decade to develop an acceptable plan to improve the flow of the Hutchinson River and thereby reduce the incidence of flooding along its length. New Rochelle has proposed some limited debris removal from the stream between The Boulevard and Hutchinson Boulevard to restore the stream bed and banks and clean the culverts to have a small impact on flood mitigation. As part of an intermunicipal agreement, Scarsdale will clear vegetation from an area adjacent to the stream along parcels that the Village owns (between the Boulevard and Sprague). This work will be done by Public Works Staff. The City of New Rochelle will be funding and managing the remainder of the project.
