Village Continues Short-term, Long-term Look at Flooding On Tuesday, July 16, the Village Board of Trustees held a work session focused on current and future flood mitigation projects happening throughout Scarsdale, getting updates from Department of Public Works Superintendent Jeff Coleman and consultant John Ruschke from Mott MacDonald. They discussed seven projects that are in various stages and then focused primarily on Catherine Road and the Sheldrake River Flood Mitigation Report. Analysis of mitigation options, cost projections and grant applications will continue. More updates are expected late summer or early fall, but the overall process of reducing flooding is expected to be a years-long, multi-million-dollar endeavor per Mayor Justin Arest, who said the issue is a high priority. Two key reports from the presentation can be found here and here. Watch the meeting here.

Superheroes at the Pool Can Help Fight Hunger The Scarsdale Recreation Department will host Superhero Day at the pool on Saturday, July 27, from noon to 5 p.m. featuring music, a bounce house, tattoos, and more for pool members. Come dressed as your favorite superhero. It’s also a great opportunity to support the Camp Cares About Hunger food drive by bringing nonperishable food donations to that pool that day. Each summer, the Scarsdale Recreation Day Camps participate in the WRAPS (Westchester Recreation And Parks Society) Camps Cares About Hunger food drive to benefit Feeding Westchester. Over the years, the Scarsdale camps have donated several thousand pounds of non-perishable food through their efforts. Now in its 10th year, the camp and pool directors have teamed together to hold a week-long Camps Care About Hunger food drive July 22-26, where campers and their families made donations, culminating at the pool during Superhero Day. The intent is to make everyone involved a Superhero!
