Tax Bill Reminder

The Village of Scarsdale would like to remind residents that tax payments for the first installment of School taxes are due on September 30. Residents also have the option to pay their school taxes in full by September 30, rather than in two installments. Residents can pay their taxes online here. Citizens Nominating Committee Seeks 30 Voting Members

The Procedure Committee (PC) invites Scarsdale residents to run for a position on the non-partisan Citizens Nominating Committee (CNC). Thirty voting members on the CNC, six representing each of the five elementary school districts, will interview, evaluate, and select candidates running on the nonpartisan slate for open Village offices in the March 18, 2025 Village Election.

A candidate for membership on the CNC must be a qualified voter (18 years of age or older) and a resident of Scarsdale for at least two years. The CNC application consists of a biographical form and a 10-signature petition signed by the applicant’s neighbors. Instructions for filing can be downloaded on the PC’s website at www.scarsdaleprocedurecommittee.org. The deadline for submitting the CNC application is Monday, September 30, 2024. The CNC election will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in-person or by mail-in ballot.

The CNC meets five or six times on Wednesday evenings at 8 PM at the Scarsdale Library: 

  • December 4, 2024 (Organizational Meeting)
  • December 11, 2024
  • December 18, 2024
  • January 8, 2025
  • January 15, 2025
  • January 25, 2025 (if needed)

All meetings begin at 8 p.m. By its last meeting the CNC will nominate a nonpartisan slate of candidates for the open positions this year on the Scarsdale Board of Trustees.

SFCS Aging in Place Offers Diverse Programming this Month 

Scarsdale Edgemont Family Counseling Service’s Aging in Place initiative has three important offerings in September: 

  • Thursday, September 12: Advocating for Yourself as a Senior with Family Services of Westchester, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Girl Scout House. 
  • Thursday, September 19: Laughter is the Best Medicine with Monarch Corner and Nancy Compagna, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Girl Scout House.
  • Thursday, September 26: Breast Health with Breast Surgery Center at WMCHealth and Dr. Toan Nguyen, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Scarsdale Library (RSVP to Stacey Cook at 914-732-3281 or scook@sfcsinc.org.)

Pool Open This Weekend: Seniors, Collect Your Chairs

The Scarsdale Pool will be open for bonus week/weekend hours Friday, September 6, from 2 to 6 p.m. (lap lanes only) and Saturday and Sunday, September 7 and 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (limited pool availability due to staffing). Members of the Senior Chair Closet Program must also pick up their chairs by 1 p.m. this Sunday, September 8, or their chairs will be removed. Superhero Day

Little Ferns Nature Program at Weinberg Has Openings

Preschool kids ages 2.75 to 5.25 can explore nature-based learning at multiple outdoors sites at Weinberg Nature Center. The fall semester weekly classes run September 16 to December 13 from 9:15 a.m. to noon at the Weinberg Nature Center. Winter dates are January 13 to March 28 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. You can register for 1-5 days per week or the full semester. Contact Sam Weinstock at sweinstock@scarsdale.gov.

Soccer

Fall Rec Soccer Begins This Weekend

The Scarsdale Recreation Department, in conjunction with the DiBernardo Soccer School run by Coach Marcus DiBernardo, will run its annual fall recreation soccer program for boys and girls from preschool (age 3) to grade 8. Sessions begin this Saturday, September 7. There are three program options: 1) Saturday and one weekday 2) Saturday only  3) three times a week (for grade 1 and 2 pre-travel soccer only). Hockey

Fun on the Field: Hockey Clinic Starts This Month

A five-session Field Hockey Clinic designed to focus on learning fundamentals in dribbling, passing and agility skills in a fun atmosphere will be run by Coach Mark Gryzlo on Saturdays, September 21 and 28, and October 5, 12 and 19 (rain date October 26) at Winston Lower Field from 10 to 11 a.m. The registration deadline is September 17. Each player is required to bring her own stick, shin guard, sneakers, goggles, mouth guard and water, and to dress appropriately for the activity and weather. Visit scarsdale.gov/recreation.

Nature Center

Fall Adult Garden Class at the Nature Center

Join Master Gardener Katie Tolson and Gardener Dyan Perry for six Saturday mornings at the Weinberg Nature Center discussing fall gardening topics including fall harvest and preservation, soil care, pruning, bulb planting, organic pest control, flower arrangements, hydroponics, indoor gardens, perennial/biennial/annual choices, winterizing outside gardens, herb medicine cultivation and composting. Fall festivities include apple cidering from the press and preparing herbal teas. The class will run Saturdays, September 14 and 21, October 5 and 12, and November 9 and 22 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. rain or shine in the greenhouse, outside gardens or under the canopy. The fee is $180 for Scarsdale residents, $207 for Mamaroneck Strip residents and $216 for non-residents. Click here to register or call 914-722-1160.

    • As of October 1, 2024, the Village of Scarsdale is migrating to a new web domain www.scarsdale.gov. Once the migration is complete, navigation to the Scarsdale.com website will automatically forward to the new Scarsdale.gov website. As of August 9, all Village staff and officials' email domains have changed to @scarsdale.gov, as well but any email communications sent to Scarsdale.com addresses will automatically be forwarded to the new .gov email domains.
