Meet Sushi, SPD’s New Mental Health Support Dog

The Scarsdale Police Department (SPD) is proud to introduce its first-ever mental health support dog, Sushi, a 15-month-old yellow Labrador retriever. Adopted through the Puppies Behind Bars program, Sushi’s arrival was made possible with support from the Village Board and a grant from the New York State Department of Health, aimed at developing a comprehensive wellness program for SPD.

Stationed at police headquarters, Sushi will accompany her handler, Detective Justin Wilder, to public and special-request events, spreading joy and fostering community connections. Sushi made her public debut at the Howl-o-Ween dog parade and was officially sworn in during the Veterans Day Parade.

To learn more about Sushi and her role in enhancing the well-being of first responders, employees, and community members, click here. Sushi is ready to bring smiles and make a lasting positive impact in Scarsdale for years to come. Follow @k9_sushi_spd on Instagram.
