Scarsdale Police Department Welcomes New Chief in Leadership Ceremony

In a ceremony on Thursday morning, January 30, the Village of Scarsdale Police Department celebrated a significant leadership transition—the fourth in 41 years—as Chief Andrew Matturro formally handed over the role to newly appointed Chief Steven DelBene after a decade of service.

Held in the Scott Room of the Scarsdale Public Library, the event drew elected officials, police officers, public safety professionals, and village staff, both past and present, along with family and friends. The gathering honored Matturro’s 36 years of dedicated service while celebrating DelBene’s career and his new leadership role.

Welcoming DelBene to his new position, Mayor Arest commended his “forward-thinking approach” to law enforcement: “From police officer to sergeant to lieutenant, you have taken on each new challenge with skill, professionalism, and a deep commitment to both your fellow officers and the community you serve. Your steady leadership, the deep respect you command within the department, your open-minded approach, and steadfast professionalism are just a few of the many reasons the Village Board was proud to entrust you with the role of police chief.”
