Before and After Bench Restoration at Davis Park

Village Enhances Park Benches with Cost-Effective Restoration

The Village of Scarsdale has taken a cost-effective approach to restoring worn park benches, saving taxpayers over $16,000. Over time, natural wear and exposure to the elements led to lichen and moss accumulating on the wooden slats of many benches throughout the Village’s parks. A quote from the manufacturer for replacement slats exceeded $17,000, prompting the Village to explore a more economical solution. Under the direction of Superintendent Gray, staff purchased, cut, and stained new pine slats, completing the restoration for just over $1,000. Davis Park was the first location to receive the newly restored benches. Residents can look forward to refreshed benches in other parks as the effort continues.
