Public Hearing on Budget Set for Tuesday, April 8, at 8 p.m.The Village of Scarsdale will hold a public hearing on the tentative FY 2025-26 budget on Tuesday, April 8, at 8 p.m. at Village Hall and online. At a March 25 work session, Village Manager Alex Marshall presented a proposed budget designed to maintain essential services and invest in community priorities. The proposal includes a 3.95% tax levy increase ($1.93 million), exceeding the state cap—based on the lesser of 2% or inflation—by $456,606. For the average household, this would result in an estimated annual increase of $203.25. View the tentative budget and the Village Manager’s full presentation here.

What to Know About Your 2025 County Tax BillYour County tax bill may look different this year—the 2025 bill has been redesigned for greater clarity and ease of use. Key updates include property identification at the top of the bill and remittance coupon, a simplified tax summary, and a QR code linking to Scarsdale.gov for online payments. View a sample of the new layout here. Payments must now be mailed to a new lockbox address: PO Box 1980, Binghamton, NY 13902, using the enclosed remittance envelope. Those using online bill pay are encouraged to schedule payments early, as bank-issued checks often lack postmarks and may incur penalties if received after the due date. Tax bills will be mailed on March 31, with email notifications sent April 1 to enrolled users. Full payment is due by April 30. For questions regarding your tax bill, please call the Treasurer's Office at (914) 722-1170.

From Teddy to Sushi: The History of Police Dogs in ScarsdaleThanks to research from the Scarsdale Historical Society, it was recently discovered that the Scarsdale Police Department’s use of police dogs dates back nearly 80 years. Long before K9 Sushi joined the department as a certified emotional support dog, K9 Teddy served the community beginning in 1945. Teddy, a sentry dog and honorably discharged war veteran, was assigned to Scarsdale following his service at an Air Force base in Kansas and through a partnership with SPCA Westchester. He served for seven years, assisting in patrol and burglary prevention. Today, K9 Sushi serves in a different capacity. Trained by Puppies Behind Bars, Sushi joined the department in fall 2023 as a mental health and emotional support dog, helping foster connection and well-being throughout the community. As noted by the Historical Society, “She isn’t catching prowlers, but spreading joy and building community.” To see more of Sushi’s work in the Village, follow her on Instagram: @k9_sushi_spd.

Public Comment Portal Open for Police Department’s National Accreditation ReviewThe Scarsdale Police Department is undergoing its annual web-based assessment to maintain accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). Originally accredited in 1990, the Scarsdale Police Department was the first of Westchester County’s 45 municipal law enforcement agencies to achieve CALEA accreditation. Today, only two agencies in Westchester County hold this prestigious accreditation. As part of the review process, CALEA provides a public access portal for community members to submit comments, commendations, or other feedback regarding the department’s quality of service. This portal is open to anyone wishing to share insights relevant to the accreditation process. The public comment portal will remain open until April 30 and can be accessed here.
