June 6 Proclaimed as Gun Violence Awareness Day in ScarsdaleMayor Justin Arest has proclaimed Friday, June 6, 2025, as National Gun Violence Awareness Day in the Village of Scarsdale. Now in its 11th year, National Gun Violence Awareness Day honors the lives lost to gun violence and supports efforts to make our communities safer. The movement began in memory of Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year-old honor student who was tragically shot and killed in 2013. Her friends launched the “Wear Orange” campaign in her honor, choosing orange—the color hunters wear for safety—as a symbol of the value of human life. Scarsdale joins communities across the nation in wearing orange on June 6 to raise awareness and promote common-sense gun safety.

New Alarm Billing System and Permit RemindersIf you own or occupy a property in Scarsdale with a fire, burglar, panic, or combination alarm system, Village Code (§ 107-6) requires that you maintain a valid alarm permit. To improve recordkeeping and service, the Village launched an updated alarm billing system on June 1, 2025. The first round of bills has already been mailed and features a new, easy-to-read format that clearly itemizes alarm calls, permit fees, and any penalties. Click here to view a sample bill. Alarm activity is now tracked and billed quarterly, including any false alarm calls. Please note that false alarms may incur a fee, and charges are higher for unpermitted systems. To avoid additional charges, be sure to register your system using the Village’s online permit application or by calling the Police Department at 914-722-1212. The annual permit fee is $100. Residents are also encouraged to report any changes in property ownership or occupancy to help keep alarm account information current.
