work session recap Stormwater Project Updates and Flood Mitigation PlanningAt the July 15th Village Board Work Session, representatives from H2M Architects + Engineers and Mott MacDonald, both serving as the Village’s consulting engineers, joined the Board to present and discuss ongoing drainage improvement efforts. The reports presented covered three key areas of concern: George Field Park, the Cushman Road/Garden Road/Willow Lane/Sheldrake Road area, and Brite Avenue/Fox Meadow Road. Consultants reviewed study findings, modeling results, and recommended improvements, focusing on culvert upgrades, drainage capacity enhancements, and localized flood mitigation strategies. The Board's discussion focused on the balance between technical feasibility, long-term effectiveness, and funding options, recognizing that while some projects may not meet federal funding thresholds, they still offer important community benefits. Trustees emphasized the importance of continued data-driven analysis, public communication, and strategic prioritization of projects based on both engineering recommendations and quality-of-life impacts. Additional information, including links to the full reports, is available on the Engineering page of the Village website. Click here to view the recording of the Work Session.

Work Session Recap Discussion on Village Sidewalks and PathwaysAt the July 15th Village Board Work Session, the Board held a general discussion on sidewalks and pathways in the Village, focusing on current conditions, funding, and future priorities. Superintendent of Public Works Jeff Coleman and Village Engineer David Goessl presented findings from the 2023 Pathway Pavement Management Final Project Report , which assessed the condition of all 20 miles of sidewalks and pathways maintained by the Village. The discussion highlighted the Village’s increasing investment in sidewalk replacement—growing from $20,000 in 2019 to $295,000 in the current budget year—and a preference for transitioning from asphalt to more durable concrete sidewalks. Trustees discussed the importance of prioritizing repairs in high-use and school areas while taking a broader look at sidewalk placement, connectivity, and community needs. The Board also discussed the possibility of developing a formal sidewalk policy to guide future decisions on repair priorities, materials, and walkability enhancements.
