village spotlight SPD Recognized for Excellence with State AccreditationThe Scarsdale Police Department has once again earned accreditation through the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Law Enforcement Agency Accreditation Program. This voluntary program, held by fewer than 40% of police departments statewide, recognizes agencies that meet 112 rigorous standards in administration, operations, and training. Scarsdale has maintained this distinction since 1990, reflecting its ongoing commitment to professionalism, accountability, and best practices in modern policing. The Westchester County Clerk’s Community Outreach Mobile Office will be at the Scarsdale Farmers Market this Sunday, September 21, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. offering passport applications and photos, free notary services, secure DD-214 military discharge paper recording, and business certificate filings. Bring proof of U.S. citizenship and a government-issued photo ID for passport services (photos available on-site for $10, $7 for seniors) and a photo ID plus $35 (credit card, money order, or check) if filing a business certificate.

Join acclaimed Westchester artist Joe Pimentel at Chase Park on Sunday, October 12, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for Paint the ’Dale, a community mural project. Participants ages five and older can register for a 20-minute time slot to add their brushstrokes to the new “We ♥ Scarsdale” mural. In addition to mural painting, enjoy a Gratitude Rock Garden, hands-on art projects led by local artists, crafts, games, and interactive “We ♥ Scarsdale” experiences for children and families. Paint the ’Dale is part of the Destination Scarsdale event series and is presented in collaboration with the Scarsdale Village Arts Advisory Council, Advisory Council on Human Relations, and Scarsdale Business Alliance, with input from the Village Historians. Adults can join the Fall Garden Workshop & Health Wellness on six Saturdays beginning Sept 27, 10–11 AM (sustainable gardening, bulbs/ferns, pest management, hydroponics, winter sowing, pickling—take-home bulbs/plants). For little ones ages 2–5 (with a chaperone), Fall Forest Adventures runs Mon or Wed, 3:30–4:30 PM, Sept–Dec, with guided outdoor exploration, animal encounters, hiking, planting, and arts. Older kids 8–12 can try Woodworking & Walking Sticks on Fridays 3:30–4:30 PM (Sept 26, Oct 24, Nov 21, Dec 12)—hike to Saxon Woods and learn burn engraving, branding, whittling, and stick-making. upcoming event Halloween Window Painting Returns October 19The 74th annual Halloween Window Painting tradition returns on Sunday, October 19, from 9 AM to 4 PM! Children in grades 3–10 who live in Scarsdale, on Garth Road, or attend Scarsdale or Immaculate Heart of Mary schools can compete solo or in pairs in the contest. Families, older teens, and adults can take part in the Family Window Painting activity—no age limits, and up to five participants per group. Registration closes October 10, and painting sessions will be assigned at that time. The fee is $25 per individual or $35 per pair or family (up to five).
