Mayor and Deputy Mayor Join October 7 CommemorationWestchester County marked the two-year anniversary of the October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel with a solemn ceremony on Sunday, October 5, at Temple Israel Center in White Plains. Scarsdale Mayor Justin Arest and Deputy Mayor Dara Gruenberg joined County Executive Ken Jenkins and other regional leaders in honoring the lives lost and calling for the safe return of all hostages. Reflecting on the occasion, Jenkins noted, “Though this tragedy occurred thousands of miles away, we grieve here at home—in our synagogues, schools, and neighborhoods—because when members of our extended family suffer, we suffer with them. This evening is about more than remembrance. It is about standing together as a community—Jews, non-Jews, and all neighbors alike—to say with one voice that we will not forget, and we will not allow hatred to tear at the fabric of who we are.”
