Public safety Scarsdale Action for Youth Shares Tips for a Safe HalloweenThe Village of Scarsdale is sharing this message from Scarsdale Action for Youth (SAY), which works to promote the health and safety of local teens: “Halloweekend” has become associated with underage drinking and drug use among some youth. With Halloween falling on a Friday, SAY encourages parents to: Talk with teens about their plans and the risks of alcohol and drug use. Supervise gatherings—under New York’s Social Host Law, homeowners can be held liable for underage drinking or drug use on their property. Keep communication open so teens know they can call for help without consequence.
SAY reminds families that underage drinking and drug use are not harmless “rites of passage.” Early alcohol use increases the risk of addiction and other serious problems later in life. For more tips, visit sayscarsdale.org/post/halloweekend.

resident resources Please Recycle Your Pumpkins — It’s Easy!Once the holidays are over, give your pumpkins and gourds a second life by turning them into compost! Instead of tossing them in the trash, Scarsdale residents can easily recycle these seasonal decorations in a few simple ways: Add them to your food scraps: Place pumpkins and gourds in, on, or next to your food scrap recycling bin. Need a bin? Email composting@scarsdale.gov or register here. Drop them off directly: Bring them to the Food Scrap Drop-off Site at the Recycling Center (110 Secor Road). Please place them on or in front of the wall behind the food scrap collection bins. Include them with yard waste: You can also place pumpkins and gourds with your regular yard waste or leaf pile.
By composting pumpkins and gourds, we help return nutrients to the soil and support Scarsdale’s sustainability efforts—thank you for doing your part to help nature recycle her bounty!
