Library Pond, also known as the Audrey Hochberg Pond Preserve, is a passive park located at 56 Olmsted Road, adjacent to the Scarsdale Public Library. The preserve features a scenic pond, walking paths, and park seating—offering residents a peaceful natural retreat.
Over time, the pond has experienced a buildup of silt and debris from street runoff, degrading water quality and habitat conditions. The Village of Scarsdale is leading a project to address these issues and improve pedestrian access to the preserve.
Project Goals
- Remove accumulated silt and debris to restore water quality and improve the pond’s habitat.
- Install two stormwater treatment structures to clean runoff before it enters the pond.
- Repair sections of the pond wall as needed to preserve structural integrity.
- Construct a new sidewalk along Olmsted Road to connect Post Road, the Village Library, and Brewster Road.
Project Benefits
- Enhanced water quality and a healthier habitat for local wildlife.
- Water quality improvements extending from the pond to the South Fox Meadow watercourse and the Bronx River.
- Improved pedestrian accessibility and safer connections to the preserve and surrounding areas.
