Congressman and County Executive Address Village BoardAt its April 22 Business Meeting, the Village Board of Trustees welcomed two special guests: U.S. Congressman George Latimer and Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins. Both officials addressed how developments at the federal level could affect Westchester County and its local municipalities, including Scarsdale. County Executive Jenkins stated that $700 million of the County’s proposed $2.5 billion budget is funded through federal aid, and that efforts are underway to maintain this funding given current uncertainties at the federal level. Congressman Latimer requested that Village officials compile a list of Scarsdale budget areas potentially affected by federal funding changes, noting it would support his advocacy efforts in Washington. Village Board Declares April 30 as Denim Day in ScarsdaleIn partnership with Scarsdale Edgemont Family Counseling Services and the Scarsdale Safe Coalition, the Village Board of Trustees has proclaimed Wednesday, April 30, 2025, as Denim Day in Scarsdale. Observed annually on the last Wednesday in April, Denim Day began in 1999 as a global show of support for survivors of sexual violence and to raise awareness about the harmful myths that perpetuate it. At the April 22 meeting, Trustees wore jeans to mark the occasion, and Mayor Justin Arest encouraged all residents to join in on April 30 by wearing denim as a visible statement of support. Learn more about Demin Day at denimday.org.

Public Comment on SPD Accreditation Closes April 30The Scarsdale Police Department is currently undergoing its annual assessment to maintain accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). First accredited in 1990, Scarsdale was the first of Westchester County’s 45 municipal law enforcement agencies to achieve this distinction—and remains one of only two in the county to hold it today. As part of the review, CALEA invites the public to submit comments, commendations, or other feedback about the department’s performance and quality of service. The public portal is open to all community members and serves as a key component of the accreditation process. The portal will remain open through April 30 and can be accessed at: https://www.scarsdale.gov/902/CALEA-Public-Comments-Portal

Final Vine Cutting Session at George Field Park – Sunday, April 27Join the Friends of the Scarsdale Parks for the final volunteer vine cutting session of the season on Sunday, April 27, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at George Field Park. Parking is available on Glendale Road—follow the path to the footbridge and cross to reach the site. This marks the last session until fall, as foliage will soon make vines harder to spot. Removing invasive vines is essential to protect trees from being smothered and girdled. Participants will learn how to identify and safely remove these destructive plants. Please wear gloves, long sleeves, sturdy shoes, and eye protection, and bring loppers or pruning shears if available. To RSVP, contact Elaine Weir at elaine.weir.sherman@gmail.com.
