meeting recap
August 12 Board of Trustees Meeting

At the August 12, 2025 Board of Trustees Meeting, Mayor Arest recognized August observances and recent community events, including the Village’s July food drive, which collected 3,400 pounds of food for Feeding Westchester. Updates were shared on Scarsdale Central Taxi service, the Wayside Lane pedestrian safety project, ongoing budget planning, and wireless service challenges, particularly related to Verizon. Mayor Arest reported that discussions with the carrier are ongoing, and the Village Manager is working with the Technology Advisory Council to engage independent experts to review coverage and recommend improvements. The Board also held a public hearing on advisory board eligibility requirements, approved contracts for the Aspen and Willow Park playground renovations, accepted a sports equipment shed donation from Scarsdale Youth Football, and agreed to request a NYSDOT study of the Five Corners intersection. Read the full reports from the Mayor and the Village Manager here. A recording of the meeting is available here.

Playground Renovations Planned for Aspen Park and Willow Park

The Village is moving forward with long-awaited renovations at Aspen Park and Willow Park playgrounds, both of which have reached the end of their service life. Aspen Park’s playground, installed in 1997, and Willow Park’s, installed in 1999, will each be fully replaced with new Playworld equipment and safety surfaces (see renderings of Aspen here and renderings of Willow here). Designs were developed in collaboration with nearby residents to ensure the new spaces meet community needs. The goal is to complete Aspen’s renovations by spring and Willow’s by fall, with work proceeding sooner if possible. Additional details are available in the August 12 Agenda Packet.

Road Work

Pedestrian Improvement Project Underway on Wayside Lane

Earlier this week, Wayside Lane was closed between Post Road and Locust Avenue to begin construction on a pedestrian improvement project. The road is expected to reopen to traffic today, August 15 (weather permitting), though work will continue in the area over the next two weeks. The project will extend the existing sidewalk on Wayside Lane to connect with Post Road, enhancing safety and accessibility for pedestrians . Residents should expect some intermittent lane restrictions during construction and are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the area.

ICYMI – Update on Taxi Service in Scarsdale

The Village was recently informed that Scarsdale Central Taxi will be adjusting its operations as the company works toward a transition to a new operator. In the meantime, several independent Village-licensed drivers will continue providing service, with additional drivers expected to be licensed in the coming weeks. To help ensure transportation access, the Village is also in contact with other taxi companies to explore temporary service options. Updates on drivers and service information will be posted at scarsdale.gov/taxi.

Simple Steps to Help Keep Your Vehicle Safe

The Scarsdale Police Department is reminding residents that a few easy habits can go a long way in protecting your vehicle. In recent incidents across the region, including some in Westchester, cars were left unlocked with a spare key or key fob inside. To help safeguard your vehicle: 1.) Lock your car every time you park, especially overnight. 2.) Fully close all windows. 3.)Never leave spare keys or key fobs inside. 4.) Store keys away from doors and windows, and keep home entry points secure. Taking these simple precautions helps keep both your property and our community safe. For non-emergencies, call 914-722-1200; in an emergency, dial 911.
